The Irish love a good story and here’s the whole of it, three tales all done in a set - Swampoodle (1936), St. Patrick’s Day (1968) and Mount Olivet (1993). If you’ve ever wondered how it all happened here, the Irish in America, here’s your chance. A wondrous gift to yourself, and all those you’ll want to share it with.

Swampoodle

Swampoodle is a thoroughly engrossing and absorbing read, and Jack Hennessey is one of literature’s most fascinating and colorful characters. I do not think it is an overstatement to say its “an Irish classic.” I have told my friends about this wonderful book and plan to give copies to a number of them. A truly remarkable accomplishment.

5.0 out of 5 stars - A Really Great Read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are so vivid, and I really like the artful way that the narrative weaves, the sense of time, and descriptions of people and places. It is such a touching story; and there were more than a few times that I had tears in my eyes…A really great read.

I read Swampoodle in a day and a half as I could not put it down…I have never become so immediately engrossed in a novel like I did here…PD St Claire takes incredible care and patience in introducing the reader to his lovable and believable characters and I must confess I shed tears more than once following their lives and times…this is a love story like no other. Thank you so much for this gem of literature, PD St Claire! I cannot wait for my order of St. Patrick's Day.

From beginning to end, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Like all things Irish, it made me cry and laugh. I am very happy to recommend this book to anyone, Irish or otherwise.

You don’t have to be Irish nor do you have to have ancestors who lived in Swampoodle, to like this book…I turned each page looking forward to learning more of Jack Hennessey and the friends he had made. I must admit that I was glad to hear, halfway through the book, that there was a sequel. You hate to lose contact with people you've come to know and love. So I recommend you take the time to pick up this book and let it entertain your soul.

Swampoodle is a wonderful book. The author has captured the Irish language style perfectly, has created the most lifelike images of southeast Washington in the early 20th Century…You will find yourself slowing down toward the latter part of the book because you won't want it to end. Someone described P.D. St. Claire as a "sleeper." Not for long. I can't wait to get to St. Patrick's Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars - Loved this book!

I bought this book on impulse…The character development is outstanding, the history of Baltimore and Washington (deftly and purposefully woven through the narrative) is fascinating and enlightening, and the plot is both engaging and thought-provoking. An under-the-radar gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars - An Irish Classic

I recently completed Swampoodle and wanted to share my reaction with others. The book brought Jack Hennessey and those involved in his life into my den. I particularly liked the "lessons in life" sprinkled throughout the story, the way in which Jack Hennessey imparted his values, principles and integrity…Three quarters into the book, I began to wonder, how will the author ever bring this to an end? Well, you just have to read it to see how wonderfully well it does end... Thanks to P D St. Claire for allowing me to share this outstanding venture.
